The “Zeig-Profil-Award” was awarded for the first time on 27th November 2020 at the Atelierhaus der bildenden Künste in Vienna. The winners were selected from more than 30 finalists in the categories Society, Creative Industries, Sustainability, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and the special category for one-person companies.
Günther Spath, CEO of lixtec GmbH, received the award for winning the “Innovation” category from Bernd Vogl, Managing Director of the Climate and Energy Fund. In the future, the company will be supported in its growth and expansion by Business Angel Berthold Baurek-Karlic, CEO of Venionaire Capital AG.
Günther Spath: ‘We would like to thank everyone who voted for us. Our simple but effective solution, which uses radar sensors to enable dynamic lighting in public spaces, saves huge amounts of CO2 and energy costs. We are delighted that our pioneering technology has been recognised.“
Light on Demand
Would you leave the lights on at home if no one was there?
Why should outdoor lighting be switched on at full power when it is not needed?
Thousands of kilometres of roads and countless car parks in Europe are unnecessarily lit at night because there are no road users nearby. The use of ‘situational’ or ‘on-demand’ lighting solves this problem.
The principle is simple. Modern LED luminaires can be fitted with motion sensors and wireless modules. This allows the lighting to be dimmed or switched off when there are no objects in the vicinity. Of course, the lighting can also be adjusted to the average volume of traffic without pedestrians, cyclists, car or lorry drivers noticing.
Road traffic places high demands on the motion sensors used, such as reliability, range and durability. To meet these requirements, lixtec uses radar sensor technology.
Applications include public lighting on roads, squares, roundabouts, cycle paths or in parks, as well as industrial plants in car parks or outdoor areas.
The following benefits can be achieved with lixtec technology:
- Improvement of the CO2 balance
- Increase the energy efficiency of the system
- Save up to 90% on electricity costs
- Reduction of light pollution
- Extend the life of LED lighting
- No compromise on comfort and safety
About lixtec GmbH
The idea for lixtec was born as part of a European research project. The company has been based in Graz since 2018 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of MEDS GmbH, a company specialising in hardware and firmware development.
In 2024, the municipality of Böheimkirchen will become the first entire municipality in Austria to be equipped with light on demand.
Determining the winners
In Phase I, companies were invited to submit their ideas in the above categories and to summarise the facts in a short description. After pre-qualification, the public vote was open to everyone in Phase II. In the final phase, it was the turn of an expert jury, made up of the Business Angels of each category, to select the winners of each category.
